Prof. Michel Eid Farah, MD, PhD, São Paulo, Brazil
Michel Eid Farah did a retina-vitreous fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, USA. He is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Federal University of São Paulo, Paulista School of Medicine, President of the Vision Institute, Brazil, a philanthropic organization, President of the Brazilian and the Pan-American and Brazilian Retina-Vitreous Society.
Michel is Involved in the Prevention of Blindness, Teaching, and Scientific Boards. He has served as President of several national and international meetings and presented the AJO Lecture at AAO. Michel was the Principal Investigator in over 40 clinical trials evaluating new drugs, devices, surgical innovations and delivery systems. He has been a peer reviewer and a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals. He is the author of 10 books and 151 chapters and has 295 peer-reviewed articles. His H index is 38 in Web of Science and 47 in Google.
Prof. Walter Y. Takahashi
Prof. Walter Y. Takahashi, MD, PhD graduated at the Medical School of the University of São Paulo. He did his ophthalmology residency at the Ophthalmology Department at the Clinics Hospital from the Medical School of USP, followed by preceptorship (chief resident) and retina specialization at the same hospital. He was an electrophysiology and retina fellow at the University of Tokyo, Japan.
He was Assistant Professor, Associated Professor and Director of the retina service at the Department of Ophthalmology of USP. During his years as chief of the retina service, he was responsible for the fellowship program and graduated many retina specialists from all over Brazil. He supervised 13 PhD theses, and participated in more than 90 PhD theses evaluations. Dr Takahashi took part in innumerous Scientific Committees in meetings such as BRAVS (Brazilian Retinna and Vitreous Society), CBO (Brazilian Ophthalmology Council), USP (University of São Paulo) and the 2006 World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) which was held in Brazil. He is a member of the editorial board of important ophthalmology specialized journals.
Also, he is editor or co-editor of 3 ophthalmology books, dozens of book chapters and author or co-author of more than 100 scientific indexed articles. Dr. Takahashi was the principal investigator in many international multi-center clinical trials. He was General Secretary of the Brazilian Ophthalmolgy Council (CBO) from 2003 to 2005 and was President of BRAVS from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Takahashi is married, has two children, one of whom, Beatriz, is also a retina specialist ophthalmologist. He has three lovely grandchildren and practices ophthalmology in São Paulo, Brazil.
